Ha! I bet you thought it was going to be another veg-less week around here, didn’t you? No such luck I’m afraid; I’m busy but still here. What with a full day of work on Monday, followed by an incredible evening at the Royal Albert Hall (seeing this show, which was amazing), and a busy day of school and errands yesterday, I just haven’t had a moment to post my Sunday haul yet. I suppose you could say that my mind, as well as my produce, is scattered. Read more…

I don’t do a lot of “presentation” with my cooking. In a lot of ways, that’s not really like me; as an art-school girl who went from fashion to photography to interior design, I’m big into aesthetics. But I prefer to rely on a pretty bowl or the natural vibrance of my ingredients to add interest to my meals. I guess I’m just lazy. Read more…

I was recently talking (er, emailing) with a friend back home about how November is second-worst month of the year. Top spot of course goes to January, the harbinger of seemingly-endless dreary weather and a depressing post-holiday funk. I guess I was wrong. Last month, when I mentioned that eggplants/aubergines were at the end of their season here, I clearly didn’t know what I was talking about. The lovely purple veg are still appearing at the market weekly, and if anything there seems to be more of them than ever before. Silly me, I assumed that something in the “summer squash” family would cease to be available once it wasn’t summer any longer. But apparently, no amount of morning frost or chilly rain is getting rid of these. Read more…

What do you eat for breakfast when you’re truly pushed for time? If I’m completely honest, my answer is “nothing” or (perhaps even worse) “toast made with white bread and topped with processed peanut butter” (yum). Of course, neither of those options fills me up for long. And these days, it’s imperative that I leave the house fuelled and on time. Read more…

I was going to call this post “Hallowe’en Veg”, but the time yesterday ran away on me, and here it’s November already. In fact, time in general last week ran away on me, which is why there wasn’t any recipe posting here. My parents have been in the country visiting my sister and me, and I underestimated the time and energy entertaining and sightseeing require. Still I had a good week, and I’m looking forward to another good one ahead (hopefully, a slightly more productive one, as the parents have now decamped to Paris). Read more…
