April showers are supposed to bring May flowers, but here in London it seems like someone missed the memo. This weekend a relatively warm and dry April gave way to wind, rain, and frigid temperatures. I woke up this morning feeling like someone was playing a cruel joke on me, and was frankly disinclined to even leave the flat.
But of course I did, and once at the market things began to look up. I may have done my shopping from under an umbrella, through chattering teeth, but check it out- the first asparagus of the year! I was so happy to see this that I promptly forgot about the weather, and I’ve already got a recipe in mind for it. I’m quite into absorbtion pasta lately (expect a recipe soon), and this looks like a great version.
Most of those onions will be caramelized and used in one of my favourite dishes. I’ve loved mejadarah since my first bite, and I’m partial to the similar Egyptian dish koshary, too. While at work this week, I had a brainwave and think I’ve hit on a way to combine these two dishes in a tasty way. I’ve got to hunt down one ingredient to test my theory, but watch this space.
Aren’t those radishes pretty? I have a slight problem with radishes at this time of year, in that I buy them but never seem to eat them. Any ideas for using those pretty pink bulbs?
So… what’s happening in your kitchen this week? Hope your weather is better than mine!
