One of the good things about my new job (besides the delicious food and regular money, of course) is how it forces me appreciate my days off from it. I woke up this morning in a great mood, happy to have a day to cook, read and putter around, just as I saw fit.

Not even the cold weather could put me off from enjoying the market today, and what you see above is only a portion of my purchases. I decided to treat myself to a Rich Chocolate Pudding from the famous Pudding Emporium- the urge for dessert often strikes me mid-week, and this will satisfy my sweet tooth without much added effort.

Yes, I’ve gone back on my word and bought another butternut squash- but you didn’t really expect me to stay away, did you? I’m considering some kind of pastry or tart with this one, with some cheese and fresh herbs, as well. The greens are there for needed roughage, but I’ve no real plans for using them yet. As always, I’m open to ideas!

Also coming up this week is my first adventure in canning, with some homemade ketchup (I’ve just had some with scrambled eggs for dinner, and it’s wonderful), and a new bread recipe- oaty, fruity, and seedy. (Also very easy, but nobody needs to know that.)

What’s happening in your kitchen this week?
