Boy Bought Veg

Boy Bought Veg

Nope, the assortment of produce above wasn’t purchased by me. This is the second week in a row that I haven’t been able to get to the market, and I’m starting to feel the pangs of withdrawal. This time, it was work; I don’t generally do Sundays but was called upon this week. Luckily Andrew went to the market in my stead, following my shopping list (lower left) to the letter. Read more…

Crumbs on crack: Roast Veg with Nutty, Spicy Pangrattato

Roast Veg with Nutty, Spicy Pangrattato

Let’s face it: there are not that many ways to make a veggie side interesting. One of the reasons I tend to be a one-dish-meal kind of girl (you know, besides being lazy) is the tricky matter of making a great side dish. Not only does it have to be interesting on its own, but it must also complement whatever the main dish is: a tall order for some humble veggies, no? Read more…

Shop Bought Veg

Shop Bought Veg

I didn’t make it to the market yesterday, but luckily I’m not veg-less today. My village has a fantastic farm shop that, while I don’t exactly frequent, I definitely make use of when in a pinch. Though I have to be careful about some origins (those oranges along the wall, for instance- I’m not sure they’re exactly local), the produce is fresh and plentiful and delicious. Read more…

Veg Ennui

Veg Ennui

Perhaps working with food is putting me off actually buying it. Or writing about it. (So far, it’s not put me off eating it.) Or perhaps yesterday was just one of “those days”, when the market’s wares were less than inspiring, and I was less than thrilled with the prospect of my usual shopping/posting/cooking schedule. Heart of Veg

Heart of Veg

I know it’s not the prettiest Valentine’s Day heart around, but considering the random and misshapen assortment of vegetables I had to work with, I think it’s pretty cute. Read more…

Free Day Veg

Free Day Veg

One of the good things about my new job (besides the delicious food and regular money, of course) is how it forces me appreciate my days off from it. I woke up this morning in a great mood, happy to have a day to cook, read and putter around, just as I saw fit. Read more…

Pink and Green Veg

Pink and Green Veg

I’ve never been much of a pink girl, but combined with my favourite colour, shades of pink and purple just sing, don’t they? Luckily, veg are more than just pretty: these ones are set to make my week ahead delicious, too. Read more…

(Not Quite) Spring Veg

(Not Quite) Spring Veg

Yesterday was one of those rare winter days that reminds me what I love about England- the springtime. Granted, it’s still a good few months away, but its promise was in the air yesterday, fresh and mild and with a certain undeniable excitement. On the way to the farmer’s market I noticed a) a woman wearing a short dress with bare legs (brave), b) more than the usual number of casual smokers hanging around outside (very brave, considering), and c) a plethora of small children who, for once, did not resemble miniature Michelin men. New Year Veg

New Year Veg

Yesterday was the first farmer’s market of the new year, and I headed out early in the morning to make the most of it. Unfortunately, many of the actual farmers didn’t- vendor turnout was sparse. Apparently, I’m not the only one reluctant to return to everyday life after the holiday! I did manage to find some food though, and these are my cooking plans for the week ahead. Read more…
