I was going to call this post “Hallowe’en Veg”, but the time yesterday ran away on me, and here it’s November already. In fact, time in general last week ran away on me, which is why there wasn’t any recipe posting here. My parents have been in the country visiting my sister and me, and I underestimated the time and energy entertaining and sightseeing require. Still I had a good week, and I’m looking forward to another good one ahead (hopefully, a slightly more productive one, as the parents have now decamped to Paris).
Yesterday of course was Hallowe’en, and can you believe that my British boyfriend had never carved a pumpkin before? Obviously this was a situation that required urgent attention, so we bought two at farmer’s market. By the time it grew dark yesterday, we were basking in the glow of two jack o’ lanterns and snacking on roast pumpkin seeds. Oh, and enjoying a quiche dinner- that’s what those four mini tarts were for.
Also over the weekend, the clocks went back here in the UK. That means dark nights from here on out, so I’m in the mood for some cozy, warming food. I’m thinking some traditional cauliflower cheese, or maybe even a casserole of sorts. This recipe, posted last week on The Kitchn, looks sort of suspect but sounds delicious- I’m thinking of trying it with butternut squash for some variety.
Is it getting colder and darker where you are? What are you cooking to go along with the weather?
